My issues of concern
I live in Glenwood. My area is predominantly Liberal voters. Here are my issues of concern:
There needs to be a stronger push in NSW Liberal party profile of Barry O'Farrell. Even if that means more advertisements, home brochures, newspaper ads etc. At the moment, I don't really know who Barry O'Farrell is. What does he stand for? Is he a strong leader? Is he a formidable leader ready to lead NSW? Does he represent as an outstanding alternative? I have to go through online to read about him. Not many people will bother to go online. I find the 'on the spot, in your face' ads like TV ads, newspapers and brochures are just as effective especially for time poor families like me.
The NSW Liberals & Nationals will improve the literacy and numeracy of our students through our Literacy & Numeracy Action Plan
The NSW Liberals & Nationals will ensure children develop the foundations for success in literacy and numeracy at an early age. We believe every child has the right to achieve in reading, writing and maths.
The Literacy & Numeracy Action Plan will invest $250 million in early intervention by individually targeting those students most at risk. It includes:
- - providing an additional 900 teachers for the Reading Recovery Program and expanding it to include both literacy and numeracy;
- - reallocating more than 300 K-2 Support Teachers Learning Assistance (STLA) to provide more intensive support to students in Years 3-10;
- - moving responsibility for preschools from the Department of Human Services (formerly the Department of Community Services) to the Department of Education;
- - using Kindergarten screening assessments and other data to identify K-2 students at risk of not meeting literacy and numeracy standards; and
- - establishing a Ministerial Working Group comprising educational experts to report annually on the performance of our Literacy and Numeracy Action Plan.
With one in five Year 9 students at or below the minimum standards in reading, writing and maths, it’s time to change our approach towards literacy and numeracy.[1]
Under Labor almost 13,000 students across NSW every year are unable to adequately read, write or count by the time they finish primary school.[2] Sadly for most of these children, by the time they reach high school it is almost too late for them to recover these skills.
Only a NSW Liberals & Nationals Government will deliver a strong education system that promotes equity, as well as excellence.
The NSW Liberals & Nationals Action Plan will help develop children’s literacy and numeracy skills and ensure a seamless transition from preschool to primary school and then onto high school.[1] National Assessment Program, (2009), “Literacy & Numeracy – NAPLAN Summary Report”, Australia, 2009.

Wanted: Kristina Keneally For Theft Of NSW Libs & Nats Policies
Shadow Minister for Education Adrian Piccoli today said Kristina Keneally’s rip-off of the NSW Liberals & Nationals education policies highlighted her Government’s incompetence and lack of fresh ideas.
Earlier this year, the NSW Liberals & Nationals announced a Literacy and Numeracy Action Plan, which involved the provision of an additional 900 teachers to target students with learning disabilities.
