Auditor General’s Report Supports NSW Liberal/Nationals Health Policy
Written by Jillian Skinner MP

“We recommend that NSW Health establishes by December 2010 formal cancer networks that link radiotherapy centres in a way that clarifies, assures and specifies access to a complete range of cancer services for rural and regional residents.”

“This will be considered.”

“Part of the NSW Liberal/Nationals six step plan to improve health services is by refocussing the management of the department across NSW and further develop clinical networks to link medical experts across the State.”

The NSW Liberal/Nationals have welcomed the recommendation of the Auditor General for the Rees Labor Government to adopt our policy of developing clinical networks of medical experts across the State, Shadow Minister for Health Jillian Skinner said today.

“I welcome the Auditor General’s supportive comments,” Mrs Skinner said.

“NSW has the most skilled medical workforce in Australia. They want to be involved in the management of our health system, and under our policy they will be,” she said.

“Developing clinical networks that link experts in a particular field will provide a stronger health system capable of the best quality care.

“The fact Labor and Health Minister John Della Bosca will only consider this sensible policy shows how out of touch they have become.

“I’m afraid Health Minister John Della Bosca can’t raise himself above his narrow-minded petty political games and simply implement sensible policy that will improve patient care – and in this case – improve access to radiotherapy services.

“The NSW Liberal/Nationals have positive practical plans to put patients first and deliver quality care to families across NSW,” Mrs Skinner said.
