Law & Order

We all want to feel safe on our streets and in our homes.  Putting more police in our communities instead of behind the desk is a great way of doing that.  We need a better police presence in our communities so we stop crime before it happens.  A change to policing which puts the local people first will be one for the better.

  1. The recent outlaw bikie gang incidents around Sydney is enough proof to show Labour's failure to maintain L&O in our society. Maybe if they redirected 'revenue maximising' policing operations to genuine 'crime solving and community safety' people will not feel like the police are out to get them for petty infringments whilst ignoring the real dangers of a surge in crime and a break down of L&O in our society!><img src=" />
  2. Yeah get rid of Nathan Rees as soon as you can
  3. I have been working for the NSW Police and other emergency services, as both paid and volunteer for about 20 years. During this time, I have seen 'law & order' not only in NSW but Australia dissolve. A brave government needs to turn back time and bring back the Summary Offences Act, renew laws and introduce more harsher penalties including mandatory gaol terms for drug offences, serious assaults, rape and murders.

I have travelled the world numerous times and I must say, I am embarassed when I visit countries and see our friends in Singapore and Thailand, and they see in their media how lax our laws are, and how unsafe our streets are too. When in Singapore, you can walk the streets at night without a worry of being assaulted, if you rape or murder someone there - the sentence is 'life' imprisonment or 'your life' itself 'hanging'.

I fear for my own daughters safety in the future, and fear how our society is destroyed by undesirable citizens. We need zero tolerance powers, more gaols, and long court time to process criminals.

Labor has to go - we need a change now.
  4. I worry about the NSW police force. After the APEC i will never ever trust the boys in blue again. We need a police force that uses intelligence to solve crime, not a paramilitary force that tries to scare us out of our minds. They now have taser guns which are also scary. The police should be disarmed like the bobies in the uk and only special officers trained to go in to to violent situations.
Crime rates are at historical lows yet the police fail to investigate break ins, letting insurance companies deal with them. A simple way of cutting crime further and getting rid of the real crims (the ones who controll the current NSW govt) is to legalise all drugs and before you shout me down in flames remember that drastic times call for drastic measures. The amount of money saved from the police budget would be huge as would the tax revenues made from the sale of products. Drugs are readily available in every school, suburb and town in NSW. Why should we let dealers get rich when we as the state can make billions off the people who get high instead of locking them up at a ridiculaous cost. Alcohol and tobacco tax's make alot of money, no reason we couldn't 2.
  5. In regards to Gaye Camerons comment. I was refused entry into Singapore when i was younger for having long hair. That country is a joke.
  6. I would like policy to respond to the political realities in our community much quicker. I would like to get issues solved in a week, not in the twenty years it gets to put them on agenda.

I would like a full time parliamentry TV channel. I would like committees and inquiries better advertised to attract submission from relevant citizens.

I would like the regulators (eg NSW Ombudsman, PIC) function reformed so that it can be a quick and effective problem solver for citizens.

I would like the "customer first" reforms from the UK and WA to be introduced in NSW Police Force for for sexual assault accuser-witnesses, among other benefits this would create more sucessful prosecutions due to evidence not lost.

I am opposed to large, low skilled, low human capital immigration which reproduces patriarchy and second world values in Australia at a faster rate than the growth of the status of women and progress.

I would like a matriarchal immigration policy where the status of women and children (including immigrant women and children) come first and the liberal patriarchal conception of rights comes last.

I would like the state to recognise a duty of care to the manifestation of patriarchal practices in Australia.

I would like a democratic relationship between firms and their employees and their shareholders as fims have a lot of clout.
  7. NSW Police Force urgently requires changes.

    DUTY OFFICERS VS STATION MANAGERS
What ever happened to Senior Sergeants actually running Police Stations in this state?

Since Commissioner Ryan, what we have got now, is a lot of Inspectors (too many chiefs and not enough Indians!), but none that actually have the responsibility of running the stations in a practical way.

What you may not know is that the Sergeant of today only run shifts. Bring back Senior Sergeants to ensure public accountability in Police Stations. There are now under 300 Senior Sergeants in NSW, out of a force of approx. 16,000 members and only three or so in Sector Supervision roles (Sectors out west!!)

The remainder of Senior Sergeant positions are in what is generally called Coordinator roles in specialist areas. Bring them back to the field where the public can regain confidence and police can have real leadership.

From a tax payers perspective, Senior Sergeants are better value for money as Inspectors are on $130,000 a year, yet a Senior Sergeant at their four year mark is on average $100,000. You would only need ONE Senior Sergeant as opposed to up to SIX Inspectors as is currently the case! You do the math!

Bring in incremental progressional promotion for Sergeants to the Rank of Senior Sergeant, so we get experienced Sergeants taking ownership of stations and Sectors as opposed to only shifts. Reduce the number of Inspectors and make a saving to the State.

NSW needs its' police force to be responsible in their public governance. What we have is anything but.
  8. You don't see the cops walk a designated beat anymore! I wan't my community to be safe. I want Community Based Policing to be reintroduced into every suburb! It's a fairly simple philosophy, local cop, knows local people (the good, the bad and the ugly), local cop builds trust, local cop gets info, local cops busts crooks and local cops problem solve! This happenned in the early 1990's, but look at us now? Local Police Stations have so many cops in Crime Management Units doing everything but police work, but can barely get enough cops to work the main responding vehicle and there certainly isn't any dedicated beat cops! Bring them back!
  9. You need to do a lot more work on this. Look at the Law and Justice Policy we had going into the "88 election.

Beat police and regular patrols are essential as crims, being people with no respect for the law often breech minor traffic regulations. If the are pulled up on such a breech it then give t he police to take a closer look at them and their activities. It can potentially stop an armed hold-up, a planned murder or a major drug deal. It can also lead to people with outstanding warrants being arrested. New York City adopted this nil tolerance policy of cracking down on minor breeches and soon the whole crime level fell dramatically as beat police apprehended major criminals committing minor breeches.

"Law and order" should include all aspects of Law and Justice. There is a lot to be overhauled.
  10. The criminal actions and noise of drunks in Coogees streets due to the extended hours of alcohol sales is more than any community should be expected to tolerate. The blatant disregard for road rules and the disrespect shown to our police officers is something Labor has almost encouraged. DOES ANYONE REMEMBER VOTING FOR MS Keneally. I thought it was by the people for the people but I feel we are living in a Dictatorship
  11. What a GREAT suggestion Fiona!!!!!!!

Yeah come to think of it, I haven't noticed any Senior Sergeants in the last 10 - 15 years!! Where did they all go? It appears Headquarters!!!!!!! I want them in my station where they are needed!
It seems it would make more financial sense, plus get the experienced Sergeants running the stations again! Bring back STATION MANAGERS at Senior Sergeant Rank.
