After years of criticising the NSW Liberals & Nationals' plan to abolish Labor's failed Area Health Services, the Keneally Labor Government has turned around and done just that.

On Thursday, 5 August 2010, NSW Labor Premier Kristina Keneally and NSW Labor Health Minister Carmel Tebbutt released a discussion paper outlining how they will adopt key elements of the NSW Liberals & Nationals policy – released over 12 months ago in March 2009.

NSW Labor desperately wants to get re-elected, so they have back-flipped, stolen the NSW Liberals and Nationals policy, and rushed into the process of drawing up boundaries.

Announcing – or in this case stealing – a good policy is one thing, but as bitter experience tells us it is a government’s ability to deliver that makes the real difference in people’s lives.

Hard working doctors, nurses and other health professionals have told the NSW Liberals & Nationals that not much has changed at their local hospitals as a result of the COAG federal health agreement signed on 20 April 2010.

Many are disappointed that not much has changed despite NSW Labor Premier Kristina Keneally promising "NSW will see improvements to our hospitals and health services straight away"… "from 1 July".

Hard working doctors, nurses and other health professionals have also said that the so called "listening tour" which led to the discussion paper was more of a "telling tour".

Tell us now, what has changed at your hospital or health service?

What has been your experience as a result of the implementation of the federal health agreement?

Are the proposed boundaries, responsibilities and governance arrangements for Local Hospital Networks suitable for your hospital and health service?

Nothing is changing at Westmead aside from a rapid decline into gross failure of all ethical systems and processes.
Infection data and handwashing data is not an accurate representation of fact; Incident report system has beeen totally corrupted; massive bullying continues in and starts at the upper echelons of Nursing.
Recent death on the Amublance Release Team is covered up.
A genuine Inquiry is required into this Hospital and Area Health Service

We need to clean up those hospital mess in all parts of Nsw so the Labor party must return to opposition since 1995. Also the Labor government's hospital policy will be abolished if Jillian Skinner was health minister form march 2011.

Nothing has changed at Westmead Hospital. the bullying intimidation and harrassment continue. Clinical incidents continute to be covered up: a patient waiting to enter tNOhe Emergency Department and under the Care of the Ambo Release team died!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!
There have been so many avoidable incidents over the past 5 years and the data has been doctered re waiting times and all know about it HOWEVER NOTHIHNG IS DONE.
NOTHING HAS CHANGED AND NOR WILL IT CHANGE UNTIL THE MALIGNANT NURSING EXECUTIVE AT WESTMEAD IS REMOVED. A COMPLETE CLEAN OUT IS REQUIRED.

The state of our Regional Hosptial in Lismore is a disgrace, the hospital runs at full capacity constantly. The Emergency Department is too small for the volume of patients attending the Department and beds in wards are being constantly closed. There are never enough staff on any one given shift, this in itself places greater pressure on both patients and staff. The facilities at the hospital are from the dark ages lifts breaking down constantly, theatre equipment too old the list goes on and specialists leaving the area. How ironic we have a new Cancer Unit which is not fully operational and many patients are still having to seek treatment out of the area. We need to tell Julia Gillard, Lismore NSW is going backwards when it comes to health as it certainly is not going forwards as Ms Gillard would like to see Australia go. Labor NSW has sent this state backwards particularly in Regional NSW, NSW Labor should hang there heads in shame at the State of this once great State.

I would like health to be good enough that - after a traffic accident and the patients are transported to hospital the staff are never faced with a decision of - we have enough resources to save some but not all so who do we save first....

If you do not do something ASAP to change the hospital system, there will not be any staff to treat the patients. How can the people of Lismore and villages feel safe in a hospital that is run down, the staff are run down working double shifts. If the Politicans get sick they get first class treatment and stuff the rest.

Do you really think that serious change will happen by voting IN a Federal Labour Government! Change needs to happen both Federally and State wise. Do you seriously think that a Federal Labour Government is going to give a rats arse to a State Liberal Government. There will not be any money left to give to change the state of our hospitals if Federal labour get back in. Are you prepared to give more of you hard earned dollars in the form of more taxes to help fund our damaged hopitals. Don't think that your vote will not impact the way our state is run. Vote Labour and you will add greater beuracracy, which means less money going directly into hospitals.

Despite i'm voting Labor at the federal election, i'm sick of Nsw Labor's healthcare policies because they increased waiting times to all patients including emergency ones, they delay funding our hospitals and refused to repair damaged parts of every nsw hospitals, allowing patients to move away from their nearest hospital and they put bureaucrats in charged not our doctors or nurses. I need to end this mess by urging dissatisfaction Labor voters to switch their vote to Liberals on March 26.

The NSW Liberals & Nationals have consistently argued for the establishment of smaller health districts oversighted by boards, comprising local health professionals and members of the community, with the power and authority needed to help improve local health services.

We welcome the Keneally Labor Government’s very belated realisation that their Area Health Services were a failure, but we fear Ms Keneally and Ms Tebbutt will bungle its implementation.
