SPEECH: Barry O'Farrell MP's NSW Budget Reply Speech 2009/10

I rise to remind this house there can't be a strong community without a strong economy.

I rise to remind this house the NSW Liberal/Nationals have always understood that without a vibrant and productive business sector there cannot be a strong economy.

I rise to use this Budget Reply to outline the priorities the Liberal/Nationals would use at this point in time to return growth, restore opportunity and repair services to the people of NSW.

Above all, I rise to remind the public that this side of politics - the NSW Liberal/Nationals - are determined to put people first, to refocus government on supporting their needs and ensuring NSW is again the Premier State.

  1. NSW should be doing alot better than the sorry economic state it currently is in. No matter how much money Labour NSW has they always manage to blow it on the wrong things and it just gets wasted. $1 bil to upgrade our Opera House - that is outrageous! What a waste of taxpayers' money when it could be put to much better use in essential infrastructure and vital public services. It tells you something when traditional Labour voters are starting to become disenfranchised and fed up with their own party and looking elsewhere for answers. ><img src=" />
  2. You are so right, $1 billion for the Opera House - that's great if there was money in the kitty - but there isn't. And so much for the Jobs Summit. They won't create one job out of that. Opening up offices which they had previously closed and payroll tax cuts for businesses to come here - what about all the businesses already stuck in NSW with the highest taxes in the country. What about giving them a break for a change.
  3. The government has totally disengaged from the people.

They were asking the Federal Government for the funds to refurbish the Opera House.

At the same time indicating they are selling the (profitable) lottery that paid for the construction of same.

My first question is: "Why sell a profitable entity?"

My second question is, "Where has the profit from the Lottery been going if it hasn't been going into the upkeep of the Opera House?"
  4. JP, I hate to be pedantic but you can't even spell Labor right, which says a bit on how much you know about politics
